๐Ÿฆพ Motivationsยถ

../../../../_images/inspirations1.png

Advanced mathematics is vital in engineering, as it provides the analytical framework necessary to solve complex problems that are central to designing, optimizing, and analyzing engineering systems. For university students, mastering advanced math concepts like differential equations and vector calculus is crucial because these tools are essential for understanding phenomena in all kinds of fields such as economics, business, mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, electrical circuits, etc. Advanced mathematics allows students to model real-world systems, simulate behavior, and predict outcomes with high precision, which is indispensable for creating innovative and reliable engineering solutions. Additionally, it sharpens critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, preparing students to approach challenges methodically and with confidence, ultimately shaping you into skilled engineers capable of tackling the demands of their future careers.

๐Ÿ“ Contentsยถ

  • Chapter 1 Functions and limits

  • Chapter 2 Derivatives and differential

  • Chapter 3 Mean value theorems in differential calculus and applications of derivatives

  • Chapter 4 Indefinite integral

  • Chapter 5 & 6 Definite integrals

  • Chapter 7 Differential equations

โœ๏ธ How to pass?ยถ

You will receive three grades:

  • A general grade: It will make up 30% of your final grade. And itself is made of
    • Class participation (10% of the final grade, 33% of the general grade)

    • Assignments and tests (20% of the final grade, 67% of the general grade)

  • A mid-term examination grade: Its grade will make up 20% of your final grade.

  • A final examination grade: Its grade will make up the remaining 50% of your final grade.

For example, if you get a general grade of 90 and score 85 and 60 in the mid-term exam and final exam, respectively, your final grade will be 90 * 0.3 + 85 * 0.2 + 60 * 0.5 = 74.

๐Ÿ”‹ You pass if your final grade is not lower than 60.

โŒš The final written examination usually happens in the weekend of the second week from the last lecture.

๐Ÿชซ In general, if you do not pass, in order to obtain a position in the resit exam (make-up exam), you will need to at least score 60 for your general grade and at least score 30 in the final exam.

โฐ The resit exam (make-up exam) usually will happen on the weekend before the first week of the next semester. In order to pass the course through the resit exam, you will have to score at least 60 in the resit exam. That is saying no general grade or mid-term exam grade will be taken into account anymore.

๐Ÿ”‚ If you fail again in the resit exam, you will have to retake the course.

On top of this, everyone should also follow the ๐Ÿ“œ Code of Classroom.

๐Ÿ“Š Teaching evaluationยถ

There will two Teaching evaluations, the early stage evaluation and the final evaluation.

  • Early stage evaluation: It happens around the fourth lecture week. Through it, you can let the lecturer know how to improve the lectures before it is too late.

  • Final evaluation ๏ผšIt will be released by the office of academic affairs at the end of the semester.

The early stage evaluation now is open. Please download the ๐Ÿ“ˆevaluation_form.pdf, fill in it (by eithor inserting digitally or printing and hand-writting), and send it back to me.

๐Ÿ” Q&Aยถ

  • Weeks 1-17, Monday, 14:30 - 18:00

  • School of Mathematics and Computing Science, Room 408A
